Big Changes

We have been really busy the last couple weeks so I haven't updated but the house is moving right along. There are workers there almost every time I drive by so I tend to only get pictures on the weekends or in the mornings if I drive by before work. Lots of progress and we are hoping to be able to move in by the end of March. Weather has caused a couple big delays but hopefully we can stay on schedule now.

We have had some rain delays but everything is moving right along.

Framing is set to begin Tuesday but we may run into some weather delays again next week. Fingers crossed they can start and finish on time!

Foundation and Lots of Rain

The foundation is done!!! We had a bit of a rain delay last week. Monday & Tuesday were spent fixing the damage but Wednesday morning brought 12 trucks of cement and the whole process was over by 4 PM.

The Workers loved my boots.

The pool was marked and staked but because of more rain, the inspection was delayed until today.  We are hoping to start digging Tuesday but it is also suppose to rain again this weekend.

Appliance Shopping and Rain Delay

This weekend we tackled appliance shopping. We have been looking at appliances for about the past 3 months and even added a bump out for the fridge in the plans before actually deciding on a fridge. Through Scott's job, we can get great pricing with Pacific Kitchen and Home so on Saturday while it rained, we went to their showroom in Best Buy to shop. We ended up with way more than what we originally planned but are very happy.  Our choices:

Range Top:
Thermador 48" Gas with Grill

Dishwasher:
Thermador Star Sapphire

Ovens:
Thermador 30" Double Wall Oven

Warming Drawer:
Thermador

Refrigerator:
Samsung 34 cu. ft. with the option to have the bottom two sections be refregerators or freezers.

Wine Fridges:
Whirlpool

Washer & Dryer:
Samsung 5.6 cu. ft. front load washer and 9.5 cu. ft. dryer.

We planned on everything but the wine fridges and washer & dryer but we are happy to not have to worry about moving our current set. Also, the new set is over-sized so we will be able to wash a King comforter without any trouble.

Rain Delay....

The foundation is ready to be poured but because of some rain, we will have to wait until Monday.

The steel went in on Wednesday and Thursday, the plumber finished Thursday afternoon.  Our final structural inspection is today.  We should be pouring Monday.

This part of the process is pretty boring to me. I have a huge fear of stepping on a nail or tripping over something and hurting myself so I tend to take pictures from the street and not walk around too much.  The pool will stop progress on the house for about 3 weeks so they can dig and pour the pool so not sure how much updating I will do.  We are starting to pick finishes for the house so I can post some pictures of that.

Week 3

Week three was a pretty big transformation. We started Monday with a completely clear lot:

By Friday afternoon, the foundation was framed and ready for the plumber:

The plumber should start today and be done by Friday. Once everything is approved, the foundation will be poured.  After that, things will come to a stop on the house and the pool will start. The pool will be in the back right hand corner of the lot and should be very close to the back patio. Since it is so close to the house, they want to dig the hole before the house gets too far along.

Bye Bye House

Today has been a pretty busy day.  In true Parris fashion, we closed on the house/loan at 11 am, had lunch around noon, and made it to the house just in time to watch it all come down around 12:45.  We only waited 45 minutes for the ink to dry before we started construction and technically the loan funded around 2:45 pm so we were a little too quick to tear the place down.   The house we live in now, we got the call that the loan had officially funded at 4:30 pm and by 5 pm we were taking a wall down. I guess you could say we like to move quickly once we have a plan.

We really put on a show for our new neighbors.  We have told the neighbors close to the house what our plans are but we didn't really give them an exact start date since we have been waiting on the bank all week.  So today when the bulldozer showed up, I think everyone was waiting on the show to start.  We got to meet a few neighbors we haven't seen before and we all stood around and watched.    We both feel so lucky to be moving back into a neighborhood we love and to be surrounded with great understanding neighbors.  Construction next door is not an easy situation and we have been really lucky to have neighbors who understand the process. My Dad has a better video from start to finish that I will try and post tomorrow. Until then, enjoy this short clip:

Week 2

We are well into week 2 and things have slowed down.  Last week we finished taking down the trees and landscaping, finished the fence and met all of our new neighbors.  This week we plan to close on our loan and start demolish.  The bank has been dragging its feet so everything is in a holding pattern until they get their act together. Scott keeps telling me this is normal and just a warm up for what is to come. So lots of patience... All of these are from my phone so please excuse the poor picture quality.

Back yard post tree removal and before the fence went up.

Neighbor to the right.

Pile of old trees and bushes ready to be hauled away.

New 8 foot fence is up!  Lots of privacy.

The old tenants were holding the patio cover up with a ladder but when they moved out they replaced it with an old closet door.  Suffice to say this poor old house has been through a lot.

Week 1

Week 1:

All the utilities have been cut and we sold/gave away any appliance that we could.

This week we are removing all the dead/trash trees, installing the new fence and preparing the house for demolition.  There are two tress on the lot worth keeping, everything else is going.
